OUR LEMBRICH FAMILY

From German birth and death records, marriage records, tombstones, family bibles and living relatives, we have pieced together some facts about the ancestors of Johann Peter, the focus of this book. By far the most helpful has been Rundbrief No. 1, the first chapter of the on-going work of Wolfgang Lembrich, a descendant of Johann Jacob Lembrich (1759-1819) who was an uncle of Johann Peter, our ancestor. From this work we find that our family goes back to Johann Heinrich Lembrich who died June 25, 1737. The exact date of birth is unknown. Reckoning from other information gained, they have settled on 1660 as the probable year when he was born. He was also called a "Limburger" which probably indicates the family came from the area of Limburg. The name of his wife and the names of their children, except for Johann Phillip, have not been verified.

Johann Phillip Lembrich (circa 1690-1754) married Magdalene Catharina. They had 4 children: Caspar who was killed in a gun accident at age 23, Johann Peter, Johann Heinrich and Anna Barbara who married Johann Adam Kerth.

Johann Peter Lembrich (or Lemperig as in some of the Speyer records) was born in 1728. His death record has not been found. However the records do show he was still living in 1776. It is probably this Peter indicated on the header over the door at the Lembrich homestead: PETER LEMBRICH, 1772. He was married first to Anna Maria Limbacher with whom he had 4 children. After her death he married Anna Elizabetha Schuz. They had 5 children: Johann Jacob (1759-1819), Maria Elizabeth (b. 1761), Maria Margaretha (1763-1829), Johann Daniel (1766-1810), and Johann Valentin (1769-1825. Johann Jacob is the ancestor of Wolfgang Lembrich referred to above. This Johann Daniel is the parent of the Daniel Lembrich (1809-1895) who is a subject of the book authored by C. Robert Thomas named in the introduction of this family history. To date we have not found descendants of Maria Elizabeth and Maria Margaretha.

Johann Valentin Lembrich (1769-1826) married Anna Margaretha Kraus. Records of children born to them are incomplete. Information on the following has been found: Johann Valentin (1796-1856) is the ancestor of Enid Lovett Brand in California. Johann Peter is our ancestor. Jacob Bernhard Lembrich (1802-1852) is the ancestor of the Lembrich's who moved to the Hay Springs, NE area and it is some of his descendants, Erna Krobisch and Hedwig Lembrich, that live on the old home place where our Peter was born. Catharina Regina was born October 10, 1809 and died January 26, 1810. Adam, b. 06-15-1811, married Philippina Mattern in 1834.
